Robert

Robert Bartlett is a prolific novelist whose work includes 12 compelling novels under the distinguished banner of Runic Books Australia. His tales are not just stories; they encapsulate rich experiences meant to resonate with readers across Australia and New Zealand.

The Novelist's Words ...

Although we know and understand how to form letters and words onto paper, wood and other materials, which enables us to communicate with each other. However, the novelist needs to use those visible signs in a more creative manner by constructing words, sentences and paragraphs into an appealing story theme; that will interest and incline others to read the novelist’s words.

In an effort to bring those words alive, there are thousands of Wordsmiths who are continually striving to create stories into unique fictional novels; gleaned from their most inner thoughts, their realistic recollections, or to become inspired from the exemplary experiences of others. Then, the novelist transforms the written story into a spirited novel by using the senses of sight, sound, touch and emotion.

The books are listed in the catalogues of a number of Australian and New Zealand libraries, readers can use the book's ISBN number to locate them in the library.

BACKGROUND

It was a number of years ago when Robert Bartlett completed his RAAF military service and returned to Civvy Street. He worked for the Australian Government for a time before entering the private sector; where he was employed as a National Business Development Manager for a couple of multi-national companies.

It was around that period, and in his leisure hours, that he started writing articles and short stories as a freelance writer for a community newspaper. After a while, his interest in writing stories grew and he wrote his first fictional novel - Róisin. From then on he continued to write, and by 2023 had completed a dozen fictional novels.

At one stage, when he thought some other people were interested in creating written stories he became a volunteer, and conducted memoir and creative writing workshops for a few years at a couple of non-profit organisations.

Before starting each novel Robert does a large amount of research into actual events, situations and people; that will exist in the selected story theme. The themes may include; Police Actions; International Crime; Government Corruption and Conspiracy; Intelligence Agencies and their Covert or Clandestine Operations; while always ensuring to maintain a fictional account.

Except for a few retail book shops, the novels are distributed to various Libraries in Australia and New Zealand under his registered Australian Trademark - Runic Books®-Australia. His incentive to write isn’t about making money, it’s all about satisfaction in creating a story that readers will enjoy, and to continue to challenge the imagined idea and concept of another novel.

IMAGINATION
AND
INSPIRATION

THE NARRATOR

While reading a fictional story, how many readers think about the Narrator in a novel – the writer’s creation. When one considers the role of a narrator – the teller of tales, he or she also has to be a kind of imaginary multi-talented spokesperson within the story. They have to be able to speak, to describe, to explain, to act, and to convey the various details related to the different characters; with their changing personalities and their regular appearances throughout the written story.

If there are only a couple of characters in a fictional story then the Narrators’ tasks are easier, but when there are more than a dozen then it could become harder for the Narrator; especially so for the story writer.

As the fictional novelists write their stories, they have to remember the various characteristics of each character, especially the words that have been used in the story. In an effort to make any dialogue that has been used easier to remember, it’s suggested that a Character Log is started before beginning the manuscript. It’s where the character’s name and personal details can be recorded, and if necessary, some notes about minor details can be added, plus any changes in the traits of characters.

It’s also suggested that a Chapter Log be started as well, where short notes are kept about the activities and happenings in that particular chapter of the story, where more notes can be added, deleted, or referred to as the story is developed.
